Or at least, Grafton seems incapable of doing anything except push them.
Commander Camparelli seems to have almost nothing but berserk buttons. Berserk Button: While he is more than willing to perform airstrikes that kill hundreds of enemy troops, Grafton does not want to be reminded of how many peoples' deaths he has personally caused in his air strikes. When it's over, one of the A-6 pilots helps the Chief hold the racist face-to-face with the croc while the Chief declares, "Repeat after me, boy: Black is beautiful!" Bar Brawl: One that involves a crocodile, starting with a merchant seaman calling Chief McRae ( Ving Rhames) a racial slur, Grafton immediately punching the guy out, and escalating from there. Late in the film, Cole and Grafton decide to get some payback by attacking SAM City. Anti-Air: Given the protagonists' role as ground-attack pilots, tasked with flying at low altitude, they find themselves constantly exposed to virtually every flavor of this imaginable, often with horrifying results. What's not forgivable is a song by Stevie Ray Vaughan (from 1988) being played during a bar fight, despite the film being set in 1971. Anachronism Stew: The A-6E wasn't fielded in Vietnam during the setting of the film, but this was forgivable as all previous A and B models had been refit. And because the bombs didn't drop the first time due to a malfunction, they have to do it again. Airstrike Impossible: The one-plane SAM City bombing mission. A lot more of the supporting characters are otherwise directly involved, however, with Grafton saving Commander Camparelli rather than Tiger Cole. His Heroic Sacrifice instead goes to Tiger Cole, calling in an airstrike on himself because the NVA are using him as bait. Adaptational Alternate Ending: The ending is tightened up a bit by the removal of the Air Force Major, and thus his entire mini-arc, from the end of the book. A fighter pilot tries and fails, then Jake tries it and succeeds. Pull the lever too soon or too late, and they get launched into the mud pit. They have to pull the lever dropping a hook just in time to catch the wire to stop them. There is a scene in a bar featuring a game where someone rides a chair down a rail towards a mud pit. That said, he's considered to be an exceptionally skilled one. Ace Pilot: A subversion, as "Cool Hand" Grafton is a bomber pilot. The film stars Danny Glover, Willem Dafoe and Brad Johnson as Grafton. It follows the exploits of Lieutenant Jake "Cool Hand" Grafton following the death of his Bombadier-Navigator during a pointless air strike. Flight of the intruder movie#
To correct this is going to require a couple of layers of putty and a lot of reshaping so the nose and windscreen will mate correctly and the refueling probe will sit on top correctly.A 1991 movie based on a novel of the same name by Stephen Coonts, taking place during the Vietnam War. The front edge curves do not line up with the nose and the windscreen size as well. The starboard side is twice as thick as the port side but is the correct length. The small section between cockpit and nose is very thick and incorrectly sized. The instrument panel fits the width of the fuselage and the sides and bottom of the fuselage line up very well to the nose cone. It looks like the fuselage molding is the cause of the problem. I started looking at the horrible fit of the nose section. I then completed the tail hook bay details and added photo etch details to the main landing gear bays. Moving onto the wings I cut off the very thick molded kit wind splints and replaced them with the photo etch version.
I worked on the exhaust by adding some photo etch details and assembled the lower fuselage sections. I drilled it open and then used some fine files to smooth out and shape the vent correctly. One of the details I wanted to improve was the tail vent. I painted up the landing gear and used a Molowtow chrome paint pen on the struts. I need to clean up the upper and lower seams which I will take care of when I correct the nose issue. The third week of the 1/48 Hobby Boss A-6A Intruder was spent getting more details of the fuselage placed.
